The Mission Today
The missions today are important to California and its history. Santa Clara de Asis is now on a University campus and the students there take care of it. The reason why the mission system ended is because Spain and Mexico went to war and Mexico won its independance. Mexico decided to take all the religon and turn the mission into a one church establishment. In 1821 ranchos replaced the missions as centers of goverment. The misson, Santa Clara De Asis, had an impact on California because the missions opened a new religon and agriculture. California today is a leader in agriculture and religon. The missions impacted California because it changed the economy from hunter-gathers to agriculture today. The California missions are very interesting and historical.
